CheckBAC Drive: Voluntary Ignition Interlock (always-on)

$268.95

CheckBAC Drive is a voluntary vehicle ignition interlock that controls the starting mechanism and pairs with the User’s smartphone. Breath tests are completed using a handheld breathalyzer and the CheckBAC application. A lock-out occurs at 0.02+% breath-alcohol-content (BAC) and alerts Monitor(s) in real-time via text/email.

Recommended for a personal deterrent or to help a family member, employee safety, alcohol recovery programs, and child custody agreements.

CheckBAC provides a simple experience for drivers, and is the most affordable platform on the market.

FAQs

How does the Facial Recognition tool work?
The participant takes a selfie when setting up the smartphone application. Each time they take a breath test the instructions suggest holding the phone like a video chat to capture 7 seconds of video and audio, which are uploaded to the Cloud platform for viewing. FR is used to help confirm the identity of the user only. A mismatch does not stop the vehicle from starting because other variables like lighting are out of the driver’s control.
Why is there a $34.99 monthly subscription?
CheckBAC is a robust monitoring service with many features and capabilities that support recovery and deterrent programs. The subscription provides access and support for the smartphone application and Cloud based platform where a Monitor can view activity reports and video files of the person who completes each breath test.
Does the hardware in the vehicle require maintenance?
No. There is not a breathalyzer installed in the vehicle like other ignition interlock systems.
What is the process when mechanical work on the vehicle is needed?
Instructions to temporarily bypass the system are sent directly to the individual completing the work.
What is the cost for your mail in calibration service?
The cost is $50.00 for shipping and calibration.
How often will the handheld breathalyzer require calibration?
It depends on a few factors: if a breathalyzer is not used it is recommended to calibrate it once a year. The more alcohol, tobacco products, and food particles that go into the device, the sooner the sensor will burn out.
Can a Monitor turn the system off so a breath test is not required to start the vehicle?
No. There is not an over-the-air or physical bypass capability. A person can explore how to add their own valet switch or remote bypass function with the help of a professional installer. This is not something supported by Think Twice or the manufacturer.
Should a Driver own two handheld breathalyzers?
Yes. The breathalyzer is a single point of failure and it is highly recommended to have access to a backup. If a device is lost, damaged, or requires calibration, the backup is ready to be used with no special setup required.
How often must the handheld breathalyzer be calibrated?
It varies based on how often the device is used and the type of usage. A sensor can “burn out” faster based on the volume of particles pushed through and may need a service every 3 – 4 months. It is recommended to wait 20 minutes after your last drink of alcohol and to clear your mouth with water prior to each test to extend the life of the sensor. If a device is not used it still must be calibrated approx. 1x per year.
What is the return policy for the hardware?
100% refund on the hardware during the first 30 days. Packaging must be intact and the breathalyzer unused (it has a counter that keeps track). There is a $50.00 restocking fee that can be applied after 30 days or if a system is returned in poor condition.
Who can install the Drive module into a vehicle?
The vehicle hardware is similar to a remote start and we recommend selecting a car audio business or mechanic convenient to your location. It is recommended to present the hardware with the wiring diagram in person so they can see what is involved. Installers are not responsible for warranty or how to use the service. They can call Think Twice with questions and concerns.
What are the benefits of owning the hardware vs. leasing?
First, we can offer a low monthly subscription that reduces total cost of ownership over time compared to a leased service that costs $80.00 - $100.00 per month for the subscription. Second, when you own the hardware, you can work with a variety of installers without a 3 rd party company dictating who provides support or what you do with the system.
Are there any visible tubes or breathalyzer technology visible after the vehicle installation?
No. The Drive module is installed under the dash and all components are hidden.
Can a Monitor request a random breath test?
Yes. The online platform allows a monitor to send a text to the user requesting a test at any time.
Does the system work without cellular coverage?
Yes. The smartphone application and handheld breathalyzer connect via Bluetooth and does not require a data connection. Note: the application must be setup correctly prior to leaving coverage areas.
Is there a way to confirm the identity of the User while driving?
Yes. A monitor can turn on the CheckBAC Active feature and when the user’s smartphone reaches 15MPH a text will request a breath test. The video documentation will show who is driving.
Can a Monitor generate a detailed activity report?
Yes. Easily create a PDF or Excel of all data related to the user’s profile and completed breath tests. Select from different historical parameters to meet a 3 rd party’s need for documentation.
Will the vehicle start without a passing breath test?
No, if the CheckBAC Drive module is operating correctly, the vehicle requires a result below 0.02% BAC to start.
How can a Monitor receive real-time alerts when alcohol is detected?
Select from a text, email or both.
Can a person monitor themselves?
Yes. The profile for the user and monitor can be the same person. We just need two unique email addresses.
How many Monitors can use the online platform?
unlimited.
How does the CheckBAC system confirm the identity of the Driver?
Each time a breath test is completed the user’s smartphone captures 7 seconds of video and audio
How does the GPS tracking work?
Each time the user completes a breath test their GPS location is reported using a Google Maps integration a monitor can access online. A failed breath test can generate a text, email, or both based on a monitor’s preference. The user’s location is not continually tracked between tests.
How does the CheckBAC Drive system work?
The User/Driver opens the smartphone application. They turn on the handheld breathalyzer which automatically connects via Bluetooth. The App instructs the user to complete the breath test. The results are sent via Bluetooth to the Drive module in the vehicle that controls the starter.
Is there a contract?
No. The subscription is a month-to-month agreement, although we do offer annual plans for a discount.
